Beautiful fruit, balance. Almost Pinot like. Drank with Veal Chop. Amazing.

Side by side with the 1990. Where the 90 shows more up front with a wonderful nose and mouth feel. The 89 just out shines as the complete package. 🤩

[en Magnum] So, this bottle had the lowest fill of any magnum I can ever remember opening (say 3-4 inches of ullage), after I got the foil and mold off the opening, the cork literally fell into the bottle, I decanted it last. Although this 35-year-old CdP is not what it could be from a pristine bottle, it still has the weight and stuffing, somewhat mature fruit, but not a drain pour. However, I wouldn’t recommend anyone try this “experiment” at home!! LOL

En Magnum. Cork came out in 100+ little pieces, but thankfully no cork taint, this shows a little Brett, but other than a mid-shoulder fill level and obvious signs of weepage, pristine redfruits and impeccable balance, everything that the 1989 has been showing for at least 10 years, outstanding!!

MAGNUM. Low fill, signs of leakage, certainly not pristine as the last magnum of this I recently opened, but classic Beaucastel, saddle leather, just a tad of barnyard/Brett, but in no way excessive, this will be CdP of the night, clearly, a non-leaker would be 3-4 points higher, I’d guess.

En Magnum. Lovely, clean, red fruits, great balance, fantastic length and complexity, I can only imagine how the (first year made) Homage Jacques Perrin must be, WOW!!

Redfruits, some garrigue, but clean (no detectable brett) and very complex, long finish, great CdP!! This reminds me why I so love Beaucastel!!

Bouquet of cherries mixed in with some smokiness and Earth. On the palate, this began well with jammy, leathery notes coupled with spicy finish. However, this is probably the end of its lifespan as the fruit started running out, leaving big spice, some acid and lesser enjoyment.

Right place, right time. Absolutely in near-perfect harmony and the lamb chops seemed to agree. Sad we had to share it six ways.
