Enjoyed over the course of 4 days and best on Day 4. On Day 1, this was poured into a decanter for two hours before being returned to the bottle. The quality was undoubted but it was just too primary; full of promise though! Day 4? Different story. Notes are descriptive of Day 4. The 2020 pours a deep ruby/slightly purple, with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with significant staining. On the nose, deep, dark brambles, plums, the most remarkable purple flowers youโ€™ve ever smelled in a wine, anise, cocoa and gentle warm spices. On the palate, the structure is significant and even after four days, was unrelenting; medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirmed the notes from the nose. The finish is forever long, rich and tangy. A wine for hearty meals but just as lovely on its own. A wine for the patient as rushing a bottle at this stage is plain foolish. Easily a 30+ year wine. Better after 2025. @Lyle Fass ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

(93-94; Drink 2026-31)

Decanted initially 4H, but very closed, and I do know better... Notes at +24H and still unfurling, medium tannins and nice acidity.

Under baked blueberry muffin, violets, crushed blackberries, dried leaves, damp forest moss, black leather; Under-ripe blackberries, dried tart cherry, blueberry jelly, lemon zest, chocolate cake.

Terrific nose. High toned berry fruit. Bittersweet cocoa and earth notes. Leather. Tree bark. Mulch. Terrific and very classic. Palate is concentrated and full of intense red berry fruit. So much tiny berry fruit intensity and wonderful stony tannins. Explosive and intense with great refinement as well. Firm tannic spine and awesome freshness. Nose gets more focused darker berry fruit and violets with air. Superb wine. Will last decades. Really amazing length and sap. As this airs it gets juicy and picks up a velvety texture. Still firm acids and tannins but so much fruit.

Great vintage for this. Super stoney nose. So so stoney. Smoke. Some red berry fruit. But so stoney. Gorgeous balance and so so juicy with that stoniness coming through with huge tannins that are so velvety. Pure. Juicy. Gorgeously defines red berry fruit. Amazing inner mouth aromas. Awesome freshness and acidity. Long. Amazing wine. What an estate. By far the best Cahors. Ripe vintages key here. This is superb.

The Cascina Francia of Cahors. Gorgeous nose, bitter sweet cocoa, dark berry fruit, leather, smoke, palate is youthful, invigorating and ripe. Juicy and complex with terrific stony minerality. Gorgeous mouthfeel. Great freshness. Big tannins but ripe and deep. Has decades ahead of it.

Lovely rustic nose of wild cherries, dead leaves, a gaminess, mint, fresh forest floor, lovely and so so old school. Palate is a balanced and energetic with terrific fruit and purity. Fine grained tannins and superb length. This only starts to show well after 18 hours. Concentrated dense and tannic. Wonderful.

A great vintage for this wine. Delicate aromas of red currants, black fruits, tobacco, mint, tree bark, dark flowers, leather, just unreal. This is so like a Bordeaux, but itโ€™s not. But it kind of is. I love the old school expression. Not many wines like this in France anymore. Elegant and sweet palate tremendous sweet fruit and awesome finesse. Itโ€™s so fresh and vibrant. There is no other Malbecs that come close this and the Vignes Centenaires. Just a fantastic wine. Better in 20 years as these wines tend to be.

Nose has barnyard blackberries, black leather jacket, ripe plum, (light) cedar box, poached plum, mashed tart cherry and slight alcohol.

Palate has warmed plum, boysenberry, blackberry, dried citrus pith, scorched earth and very drying to the palate, like it's removing all the moisture from your mouth. This bottle had been constantly evolving all night, up and down traits with quite varied experiences with my tasting companions this evening.

Decanted 8h before tasting, likely would appreciate even more time. Future bottles can be 2025+.

Perfect pair to homemade burgers from a local farmer in Columbia Co. NY (Kinderhook Farm), cooked to a beautiful medium-rare served on toasted brioche burger rolls.
