Excelsior
Cabernet Sauvignon

Ruby in color with medium intensity.
Harsh on the nose with blackberries, black plums, black currants, fake wood, barnyard and dark chocolates.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, spices, light oak, coffee and peppercorn.
Short spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
I remember enjoying this South African Cabernet Sauvignon around 10 years ago, but apparently my palate changed.
Fruit forward and easy drinking.
Simple and a little unbalanced.
Needs an hour to open up.
Feels like an entry level Old World Syrah. Interesting.
I paired it with baked Brie and French baguette.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in French and American Oak barrels for 8 months.
14% alcohol by volume.
86 points.
$10.

Very good value, varietally correct Cabernet. Bought for a song at local Costco, maybe $6(?).

This is a nice Cabernet Sauvignon from South Africa. Easy drinking with a nice mouthfeel. Nice and balanced with a tangy finish.
Needs an hour to open up properly and show some tannins, but drinkable right out of the bottle too.
I really liked the nose, it is fruity and refreshing with red fruits and earth notes.
I paired it with a few different French Brie cheeses, nuts and crackers.

It's time for my #fridaycabernetfix . This week it's from South Africa.
Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn and vegetables.
Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with black currants, cranberries, plums, sweet strawberries, herbs, spices, vegetables, oak, licorice, earth, peppercorn and red chilli.
Medium plus on the finish with firm tannins and tangy raspberries.
This South African Cabernet always delivers. Inexpensive, but drinks very nicely. Nice and balanced with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Has a nice tangy finish, which I liked.
Needs 30 minutes to open up properly and show some tannins, but good right out of the bottle, and it has a screw top for the on the go wine drinker.

A very competent if not straight laced cab from S Africa, but provokes a double take given the price( around 8 bucks). Does make me wonder how this maker s labor is treated....and paid
