Oak on the nose; tart, green apples on the palate, and a pear finish. Paired equally well with fried chicken, lamb sausage and crab cakes.

2010 Evening Land Vineyards Mad Hatter Chardonnay - reduction, reduction, reduction! The last of Isabelle Meunier's legacy, the 2010 Mad Hatter Chardonnay is a blend of the Seven Springs Vineyard estate and a small vineyard located at near Mount Angel Oregon. This vineyard shares the same clonal selections and soil types as Seven Springs, but sits at the foothills of the Cascade. Alongside Meunier's stylistic choice for heavy reduction are tones of tropical fruits, vanilla, and white peppercorn. Zippy lemon curd and citrus pith greet the palate, mellowing out into limes and green apples, with hints of vanilla bean. Finishes long in typical Oregon salinity, with lingerings if green pear and white nectarine. I think a bit underrated and certainly worth the time to talk to.
