Elio Sandri
Barbera d' Alba Superiore
Disclaimer: I’m not a Barbera fan. This is decent pizza wine. Nose is very winey. Scents of barrel room, tangy dark berries, and licorice. You can smell the acidity. Lean and cleansingly acidic in the mouth. Crisp finish.
OK, I’ve done my Barbera requirement for the half-decade.

Old World to it's core. It's got everything that you expect from a quality Barbera, the leather and the acidity. After opening up, you'll get the aroma of dark fruits and spice. I love the rustic aspect of this wine, it's exactly what I wanted from this bottle. It's got the leather, tight acidity, and fresh berries that you want. A nice, long finish caps this baby off.

Feb 1st, 20172020 vintage. Medium/medium-heavy body. Blessed with richness up front and grip on the back end without obvious flaws or gaping palate holes. A bit of something for everyone and at decent pricing. In consideration for future...considerations. 01.22.25.

Jan 22nd, 2025Nice Barbera example. Some transparency, darker plum profile well balanced around alcohol and acidity.

Dec 9th, 2020Felt a bit like smelling Nebbiolo. Lots of roses & tar aromatics. Darker fruited to be sure, well structured and more complex than many bottles of Barbera. I tend to love this grape with a variety of different food and this bottle is an excellent example of bright dark cherry and a juicy finish.
