The 2020 Nerello Mascalese Pirrera is delicate and coy in the glass, showing just nuances of rose and black cherry contrasted by dusty earth. Silky and refined, it washes across the palate with a pure blend of red and wild blueberry fruit. A mineral staining adds tension toward the close. It finishes structured and long with a citrus concentration to balance as tart raspberry and sage slowly taper off. Patience will be required to tame this structured Etna Rosso. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2023)

Decanted, and everything is still in high gear: biting tannins, high acid. But the fruit keeps me coming back for more. Definitely feel like it's a step up from the Versante Nord, and would love to revisit in a few years, when things have mellowed out a bit

Classic Etna cherry and volcanic soil, but there was little structure and this finish fell off the side of a cliff. Prefer his entry level.

One of the better wines from Etna I’ve had. Volcanic soil comes through in the most funky way. Love it!

It grew one me over the course of the evening, but this is one of those wines that I would consider to be flawed, although that didn't stand in the way of eventual enjoyment. Absolutely not what I was expecting from Vineyards near Randazzo, with a finish that was too sour and evident Brett.
