E Guigal produces fine Rhône wines. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruit and simple spice. On the palate juicy flavors of black plum and blackberry fruit, pepper and black olive notes, vivid acidity, good balance. Firm fine tannins, long finish ending with spicy fruit character. The ‘15 is drinking well now. Good value.

Another time tasting this superb entry level CDR from Guigal at £7/half. For such a low-end wine, this does a brilliant job of telling you where it’s from. Am yet to try the 2016 but look forward to doing so.

Nice surprise!! Have swerved this CDR in the past having never heard glowing reviews. But this half was the only 37.5 available when I needed a wine last night, so thought it worth a try. Brilliant QPR on this entry level wine from E. Guigal, a blend of predominantly Syrah with a dose of Grenache & Mourvèdre. Dark, enticing, very youthful from the excellent 2015 vintage. I shall buy more and keep a few for years to come - this should age reasonably well in the mid-term.

A blend of 55% Syrah, 40% Grenache & 5% Mourvèdre with attractive aromas of berries and spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry with smoke and savory spice. Lingering finish, grippy tannins ending with earthy herb spice. Great value, should age over next few years.

I didn’t especially choose tonight to be the night to put a few final brushstrokes on a 3.5 year project that required a lot — a lot — of booze along the way. But here we are. Cotes du Rhône fueled my book like nothing else could. So it’s an appropriate way to go out. For all other occasions, I’d pass this up for some Famille Perrin if you’re on the hunt for bottom-shelf swill.

I always enjoy this CDR. It has good body, a little fruity, and a smooth finish. Cost was $11 in the store
