Sourced from the esteemed ‘Stoney Vine Vineyard’ in the Walla Walla Rocks AVA, the 2017 ‘Tall Tales’ Syrah begins with lovely stony undertones that mingle with the green olive tapenade, bacon fat, cigar ash and clove aromatics that all marvelously combine in the glass. The texture imparted is seriously good as is the flavor range from Satsuma orange zest to ripe red cherry to shades of Umami, bulls blood and sweet pipe tobacco. Delicious now, this will continue to evolve well over the next eight to ten years — but why wait? Drink 2019-2026- 93

Wow! What a difference 5 years makes! I always suggest, when people are trying this wine in the tasting room, to try laying this wine down for at least 3 years. It changes so much! Smells big a fruity on the nose, with a kick of strawberry fruit leather with a side of raw bacon. On the palette is is definitely fruit forward, jammy, but not cloyingly so. When this wine was young that fruit was all bound up, now just oozes deliciously around your mouth. Strawberry, vanilla, and pipe tobacco dominate initial experience, followed by progressively mellower notes of herbs, green olives and pomegranate. Yum!!

This is an almost comically complex wine. The nose is loaded with shape-shifting scents of black olive, ash-crusted crushed rock, cigar, fresh roadkill, and even a bit of dark fruit. So concentrated in the mouth, but not heavy. The richness lingers in the tannic, smoky, stony, inky finish.

This wine is from the Stoney vine estate on birch creek estate. Pretty floral notes and a good bit of fresh earth iron mineral notes to the dark plum and dark berry fruit. Smooth and silky texture with fine tannins dark spice mocha and that fresh earth mineral nuance. Finish 45+ excellent +

Tall Tales Syrah, its utterly unique "funk" from the deep, cobblestone soil of the Rocks at Milton-Freewater, shines so bright with savory food. Its earth and mineral qualities, contrasted beautifully by plum and currant, with a hint of black pepper, really give just the right oomph to make this wine the perfect partner for a meal (in my case, pesto soup, with a side of heavily herbed garlic-cauliflower)

Wonderful, pillowy tannins give way to a slug of big, dark red fruit that fades slowly, with a nice, peppery finish.

2011 was a tough year, but you wouldn't know it with this wine. It goes boom the instant your sip it, big explosive fruit (prune or plum), coco powder that completely coats the mouth. A strong, silky backbone and all kinds of spice. Drool...
