Dönnhoff
Dellchen GG Riesling
Nahe, Germany

See previous note from February 2024. Peachy and mineral. Absolute purity on the palate with profound intensity and medium minus acidity. At 10 years still with a future but hard to beat right now. Jancis Robinson’s German expert, Michael Schmidt, scored this 19/20. Seriously a world class dry Riesling (13% ABV). Some tasters are getting petrol/kerosene aromas but I’m not getting that.

Our 3rd delicious Riesling at lunch from the Prince Burgundy day a week ago. This Donnhoff was the Dellchen from memory. No notes taken.

A dry German Riesling (13% ABV) - a top shelf GG. Aromatics of peach and mineral which translate to the palate. Also tropical fruit notes (pineapple) on the palate. Quite delicious. Medium minus acid. Could cellar for a couple more years if desired, but this is pretty much at its peak. The memorable aspect to this Riesling was the purity. Jancis’s German expert, Michael Schmidt gave this wine 19/20. Dry Riesling doesn’t get much better than this.

Bit more open than the Hermannshöhle with some passion fruit, pineapple and fresh sliced white peaches. Good structure, medium body. A well made GG.
