Chucked bottle prematurely, so I think was a 2019. Saumur reds, ie, in this case 100% cab franc seemed to have bulked up the last few years. Yes, it’s a richer, deeper wine but does the ripeness suit the varietal, at least in the Loire? Here I would say yes. Plenty for Chinon lovers- gobs of red fruits, like crushed raspberries & cranberries, but bay leaf too on back end- it’s a nice longish finish.

Not much on the nose for me but it opened up more in the mouth. Strawberries right away, then some of the bell pepper qualities you expect toward the middle and end. Finishes with dry stone. 🍓

Too subtle for my new world-esque taste buds. If you’re into old world and Cab Franc, I can see this being a great choice. There’s definite pepper—black pepper. Also, got some blackberry. This is full bodied and mid-long finish. Some earth and mineral<— especially in the nose.

This is richer, more ripe than I was expecting. Red strawberry up front, then more subtly the pepper notes you expect come in. Mineral finish.

Day 2: Cola and dark cherry nose, with graphite and smoke. Underripe currant leaking out as well. Gritty tannin with cranberry and cherry fruit. Chalky minerality. Lingers well, plenty of dimension.

This was awesome. I know that’s not a very descriptive review. But if you like Loire Valley Cab Franc, you’ll like this.
