It was Weston’s hosting today for the Wednesday Wine Committee and probably the most informative lunch to date. Though everything was tasted “blind” as usual, we were all given a list of grapes to choose from for the whites and the reds, since they were all meant to be very similar.
For the 3 whites, we were told there was one chenin Blanc, one grüner veltliner and one Albariño. So, basically no white wine I drink enough of to know much about. I knew Albariño to be a bit sweet in the finish, so it ruled this out. There was a very German/petrol nose on 2 which led me to Grüner, so by deduction, this has to be the chenin! ✔️

16.5/20 (90/100) Вино с красивым ароматом актов, мёда, пчелиного воска и спелой груши. Сухое со свежей кислотностью. К сожалению, вкус немного отстаёт от аромата по насыщенности.

Wow, I can certainly see what all the hype is about with the "most cerebral wine in the world." Gorgeous nose of mango, white rose, lychee, and white cream. Palate features pretty jasmine notes with perfectly balanced acidity, round mouthfeel, and a touch of white peach skin. Finish is spot on and lasts forever. 100% chenin Blanc and worth every penny.. one of the better whites I've had in memory.

This is all mineral and texture, with surprisingly understated acidity (for Chenin). There's some quiet and underripe orchard fruit and just a whiff of honeycomb, but they're bit players to the rocks. I like it, and it was great with yellowtail crudo, but I have no idea whether or how this blossoms or develops in the future.

The nose missleads one with a slight oxidative hint and aromas of cider, fowl and quince, but the palate is fresh and primary with excellent acidity, rich yet soft fruit and a long finish of peach, strawberry and macadamia.
