Les Monts Damnés Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc

One of the great terroirs of Sancerre, paired with buffalo chicken salad because why not. This wine is just pure pleasure—rich and expansive but with plenty of mineral cut, stony but honeyed and suffused with a kaleidoscope of citrus and stone fruit, with a hint of marzipan and toast on the finish.

What a wine. Melons, mineral, floral notes. Rich and snappy at the same time.

A leading domaine for Sauvignon Blanc in Loire (Sancerre AOC) is Pascal Cotat a natural winemaker who owns 2,5 hectares of vineyards splitted in two lieu-dits: Les Monts Damnés and La Grande Côte in Chavignol, east of Sancerre. The chalky soils parcel of Les Monts Damnés owned by Pascal is in the higher grounds (very steep slopes), the vines are around 35 years-old organically cared (seaweed and other natural preparations to fertilize the soil).
Pascal (as does his cousin François) prefers late harvests, more than a week after every other winery in the region.
Wines are unfined and unfiltered in the bottle. First superb impression drinking this delicious 2014 was: fermented sea water which goes down as a freshly squeezed ripe pink grapefruit filling up your mouth, cleaning up your mind of all uncertainties, riddles or prejudices.

Wild and untamed with notes of lime curd, green apple, freshly cut grass

Awesome. Full bodied but balanced with ripping acidity. Typical. A little grassy and grapefruit but not overwhelming terpenes.

I'm not always a fan of Cotat wines, but this is off the hook. Bracing acid on the attack, firm mineral quality, lime candy, gooseberry, raw green pea and matchstick. Fattened up a bit too much with air and warmth, but a fantastic bottle. #sofreshsoclean

Good lord these wines are good. Textured, fruity, but the fun comes in the form of a mouth full of rock on the back end.. Feel like a touch of RS is left in the wines.

Too young but you can taste this is a multi layered wine which will improve over time.

Magnum. Small nose, Packard with flavor and long finish.

Jalapeño, tomato leaf and grass. Coming to temp, the minerality and ripe fruit character (lime zest & honeydew) come to the front. Like Mont Damnes bottlings from numerous producers, a powerful assault on the senses.
