Just popped and double-decanted this about 10 minutes ago, so I may end up updating my notes. But right now, the nose is a bit shy, giving up a little tree bark, licorice, and faint blackberry pomace. It’s more demonstrative in the mouth, showing dark, scorchy flavors and lots of scratchy tannin. Not fun on its own, but hopefully will do better accompanying my almost-ready daube Provençal.

Really enjoyed this. Classic rustic Mourvèdre up front.

Shy nose reluctantly gives up scents of deep, rich berry fruit, classic Mourvèdre tree bark, and dry gravel. Much more demonstrative in the mouth. Mouthfilling and dank, it still has plenty of tannin to shed, but is fine now. Not super complex but a very good value in the low 20s.

Great value from importer Eric Stauffenegger. 100% Mourvedre, displaying rustic Bandol character. Great primary black fruit, garrigue, olives. Fleshy, slightly juicy up front with grainy tannins on the finish. Very evolved and balanced already, with great approachable nature. I doubt you will find a better Bandol at this price point.

Vintage 2005 / Impuls purchase when leaving a wineshop. Crumbling cork, I thought OMG. Bandol can be very tight tannic and stubborn. I saw the word stoïc, and that’s a fine description for some Mourvèdre wines. Good acidity, medium weight. And then happened a little wonder in the glass, with air the red fruit became more apparent. Lovely. Also spicyness with a dominant cinnamon. Enjoyed it. For a 15 year old wine I paid a bargain price. Paired with Steak and mushrooms and French style stewed leek.

2005 vintage. Decanted. Aromas and flavors of olive, garrigue, leather, iron and black grape skin. Rustic. Mild, dusty tannins. Juicy acid. Paired great w/ filet and garlic butter. Solid value.

The 09 is drinking well with a little decanting. Black berry fruit comes right out. A stoic wine for sure.
