Nose is so expressive. Gorgeous ripe mid season cherries and elegant spices. Some lovely earth and limestone scents and minuscule hint of wood. Palate is bursting with cherry fruit and is so sapid. Concentrated, fresh and full of red fruits and a supple texture and engaging sweetness. Barely any tannin but what is there is so fine.

Apr 3rd, 2024Big cherry fruit with a lipstick like intensity. I love the fruit character of 201.9. Mid to late season cherries. Palate is sleek and juicy with nice mid palate opulence and terrific acidity. Elegant and so well made. Pitch perfect.

Feb 29th, 2024Deep nose of blackberry flower, black cherries, violets. Pungent and vivid and so deep. Some earthy notes as well. Palate is deep, rich and fresh with black cherry fruit and ripe but substantial tannins. Great inner mouth aromas and deep, dark fruit buffered by minerality and freshness. Very long finish. Powerful and dense. 18 is a great vintage that will need time but it’s slowly starting to unravel.

Sep 24th, 2023Wow, very high toned and lifted. sappy and pure. reduced and haunting. red red fruits, silky, velvety and sweet, so sappy and so dense, wow this is insanely seductive. So so juicy. wonderful. big tannins and grip.

2019 is terrific in Volnay and this has it all. What village wines should aspire to. Huge stanky nose of sweet cherries with a lipstick like intensity, rocky minerals and some nice florals. So expressive and has that 19 richness. Palate is rich and expressive with terrific freshness and tons of rile cherries. Ready to go on p and p but air will be this wine’s friend. So juicy and lush. Really terrific acidity. Lush, succulent and tangy as well.

Jun 19th, 2021Full of fruit on the nose. Big big cherries. Blast of minerals. Beautiful fruit and energy. So sappy and deep but also tangy and fresh. Intense minerality but perfectly aligned with the fruit. Lovey depth and sweetness.

Jan 30th, 2021Lovely stuff. My first 18 red burg in bottle. Outrageous nose of perfectly ripened mid season/late seasons red and black cherries. Loads of earth and freshness from intense minerality. Nose is very very giving. Just outrageously fruity and like a puppy licking one’s face. Can smell this all day for the vividness of the aromas. And the purity and the depth. Amazing palate. Sweet sweet fruit. Concentrated and deep with oodles of fruit and big, juicy and ripe tannins. Awesome freshness and purity. Terrific inner mouth aromas. Long finish with accents of black cherry and kirsch. Likely needs maybe 2-3 years or a few hours open to be more expensive on the palate. All there.

Apr 13th, 2020I love this wine. What a disgusting value. Big fruit on the nose but haunting and elegant like Volnay should be. Spice and mint as well. Suggests a ton of depth. Sinewy, floral and feral as well. Elegant, sweet and deep with stunning purity, texture and velvety tannins. Killer. Amazing sweetness to this.
