My red of this Melbourne trip and winner of our little “Vosne-side of NSG” shootout. Pitted in a blind against the 19’ M-G Chaignots, and I felt it had more energy and better quality oak. Honestly, we were splitting hairs as both wines were on par in terms of complexity, intensity, and drinking pleasure.

On the nose, lifted red fruits, primarily ripe strawberries; hints of blackcurrants, roses, spice, earth, and a distinct chalkiness. You can really smell the “gout de terrior” here, and wood felt very seamless especially compared to the M-G. Pure, powerful, and silky on the palate, with a salinity that seemed to grow with air, and spice-inflected super lengthy finish. Loved the energy! Very young and structured for sure, but already a real joy to drink.

Nicely opened after an hour in the glass. A ripe style with beautiful tannin and moderate acidity. Love the rose, red currant, creosote and citrus rind aromas and flavors. Great texture, tannins frame finish. Should have 10 years ahead of it but excellent now

Rich, ripe, soft, not a lot of energy. Tasted on day 2.

2009 vintage

I need to slow down on my burgundy habit! The 2007's drink so well now that it is hard to resist them when they are around. The Grivot's tannins were resolved, the fruit was dark and rich and the texture was a perfect medium. The Mogneard last week was more exciting, but this had undeniable breed.

Loving the old school style from Domaine Jean Grivot. Lots of enticing secondary notes singing through. #delish

Brickish rim. The nose on this is stunning. Stunning! It's perfume and poetry. Rose petals, raspberries and wild strawberries, forest floor, underbrush, earth and mint. A romp through a fairy tale woodland thicket. On the palate, it's elegant and supple. There is fore-palate acidity and plenty of focus, this NSG is lovely. Just lovely.

Dark garnet with some slight fading towards the rim. The bouquet on this is enticing - ripe cranberries, mushroom, damp earth intermix with crushed stone, dried citrus peel, and dried sage. On the palate it is fresh with juiciness of cranberries and red currant. The medium body carries silky tannins and lively acidity. Slight peppery, long finish. Drink 2018-2025+

Really interesting. We've had one bottle sitting in the cellar for over a year, and I've been hesitant to sell it to anyone, but someone ordered fired it. And yes, it had some greenness, but their was a great core of red fruit, florals and earthiness underneath. Not at all thin or watery. Really impressive at $150. All goes to show that surprises and mysteries are often better than the expected. Grivot impresses me more and more.
