Domaine Grosbot-Barbara
Les Maltôtes Ipp13 Chardonnay Tressallier
One cannot ever drink enough elite St. Pourcain. A dream of a nose with gorgeous aromas of butter, minerals. baked apple, iodine and wet earth. Just stunning and evocative. Layered and so complex. Wow. What a palate. Salty, rich, but fresh and textured. Long and rich but so much energy. Coats the backend so nicely and such pure sappiness. Just a stunner. Sadly no made in 2021. Amazing length and purity. Masterful balance. A genius wine. Is this a 9.6? Maybe. Let’s see how it develops.

Jan 18th, 2023What a wine. Nose is a complex lemon/lime medley with sweet lemons and limes. Unreal mineral, lanolin note. So pure and clean. Flowers. Elite grass. Awesome minerality. Pure and clean. Palate is chewy, dense, structured and has next level elite elegance. Sappy and pure. Amazing depth. Grassy yet so serene and zen. What an exciting wine! Incredible freshness and acids and playfulness. Super serious and so drinkable. Luscious. Endless finish.

Feb 7th, 2021Top white cuvee from Grosbot-Barbara in St. Pourcain. 70% Chardonnay and 30% Tressalier. Just a sick nose. There is a sense of deepness and superb refinement. So so sick. Mineral up the wazoo. Lime rock candy. Superbly integrated oak. Lemon drop. Deep tree bark. Woodsy. Profound. Superbly profound. Smells like Elite 1er Cru White burg with a twist. Palate is like a sweet Meyer lemon with amazing elegance and off the charts acidity. Tensile. Dense. Structured. Acid is very tasty and even sweet! It’s a bit closed now as the finish is a bit incomplete but it’s all there.

1 person found it helpfulFeb 20th, 2023Gorgeous wine. Nose of light oak, grilled pears, apple skins, minerals and lime zest. Also lime flesh. Lifting minerality is something else. One of the more unique noses out there. The Tressallier makes this crazy. Palate is rich and perfectly framed with wood and maybe has a tic less acid than 18 or 17 but the richness of the texture and length more than make up for that. Air will smooth this out and let the minerality become more expressive. Beguilingly fresh and such lovely balance and compactness.

1 person found it helpfulApr 5th, 2022Nose is psychotic. This controlled richness. Almost round in a perfect sphere way. Almost a hint of sherry without the oxidative notes. Hard to describe. It’s own category.
Nose is more l33t after 45 minutes. You get this high end burgundy complexity compete / complex / craziness.
Palate is elegantly delicious. Nice minerality. Juicy. Delicious. Elegant.
More meursaulty than the 18 which was better / more interesting. Still quite amazing.
As this opens it gets more “high class”. Decant for 30 and drink over 30.
Long finish.

First sip is crazy. Totally unique.
Palate is intense. Fresh. Almost painfully fresh and tart in a good way. Think a great vintage of willi Schaefer how it gets that intense Green apple jolly rancher thing. Except this is Chardonnay and tressalier. Yes. I know this note is a bit imprecise but it’s not like I have a lot of experience with tressalier.
Has this stunning controlled density. Blind I might guess aged very good Grand cru Chablis. Shows what I know.
Man. This is very good.
Nose is lightly floral. Sorta closed but the little you get is gorgeous. If the nose comes around this is world class wine.
As this opens you get almost this elegant marsanniness. Almost mountain Marsanne. Rich and lightly floral.
An hour in this is insane. The density, complexity and elegance of grand cru burgundy. Spectacular.
Makes me wonder how many other random areas can make elite wines.

Light straw color... smells floral, with a bit of passion fruit and tropical... dense, lots of cloves a bit overpowering, good balance but feels too worked ;)
