Domaine Grégoire Hoppenot
Morgon Corcelette Gamay
Morgon, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France
Very nice cru Beaujolais from Morgon Corcelette, which for some reason I always love. Had this a number of years ago and the age has mellowed this out. Lots of dark red crunchy berries and almost some purple fruit. Quite light on its feet but with great body and acid. Good length too. Nice pairing with chicken thighs with halloumi, cauliflower, and olives.

One year later +2. Bright and deep with some sneaky tannins. This wine is delicious.

What every ‘natural’ wine aspires to be. Brambley dark cherry juice. So clean and pure.

Good. Slightly darker and more robust than a classical Morgon.

Aug 5th, 2020Just a very fun and eminently drinkable Beaujolais. Tons of cherry on the nose. Good firm minerality, good acid. Not overly fancy but a pleasure to drink.

Well, I almost drank the whole bottle it was so good. What a complex, delightfully bright wine. It masks how complicated it is by being a charm to drink, but starts off mildly funky, clay earthen, and full of ripe cherry. The mid is slightly tannic, becomes a darker stone fruit, a little ash, still clinging to dirt. Just a smidge. It’s all plum and tannic hugs on the way down, without the smackiness of a hefty grape. Leaves you salivating and wanting more.
