Domaine Gourt de Mautens (Jérôme Bressy)
Rasteau Red Rhone Blend
Incredibly pure and voluptuous. Red fruited, piney, pungent and herbal. Some tar and roasted spice on the nose. Lingering, seductive sweetness on the finish.

Jun 29th, 2021Austere at first, thought maybe the fruit was gone but just needed an hour of air. Consider drinking soonish though. Tastes like lots of Grenache and lots of whole clusters. Leads with leather, animal, dried herbs, coffee grounds and eventually dark red cherries in syrup and cinnamon red hots enter the mix. Clearly from warmer southerly / mediterranean climes but there is still a sense of freshness and acidity here

Jun 21st, 2020The bouquet on the '07 Gourt de Mautens is intense, both sweet and savory, lifting from the glass with a dark wave of purple-tinged florals, black currant, fig paste, exotic spice, black olive, and crushed stone minerality. On the palate, the expression changes from earthy and savory to velvety and extroverted, yet with undeniably elegance, boosting incredible depth and richness to it's black fruit with a tug of brisk acid and hints of residual tannin creating a tactile feel. The finish is long, and I mean long, with sweet tannin lingering beneath notes of blackberry, dried plum, and spice, yet somehow still mouthwatering and fresh. What a wine!!!

Nov 18th, 2017It's been a while since I've had a chance to taste the 2009 Gourt De Mautens, and i must say that I'm pretty impressed with it's evolution. Here I found a haunting bouquet of blackberry and marine-inspired minerality, along with moist earth, hints of animal musk, dusty florals and sweet dark spices. It was vibrant and finessed on the palate, yet deceptively so, as mineral-encrusted blackberry and cherry fruit gave way to sweet spice and herbal tones on a silky frame with sweet tannin. The finish was long and polished, showing black fruit and spice contrasted by a hint of sweet herbs and lingering tannin. What a beautiful wine, which I'm so happy to revisit and feel assured that there are many years of development ahead. #rasteau #jeromebressy #rhone

1 person found it helpfulNov 18th, 2017A bit tired. Held its own pretty well at first with some pork bao but over time kind of fell apart. Interesting for a moment. Definitely would want to try again to see what a fully alive one tastes like.
