Definitely had this as a lesser grand cru by process of elimination in our blind options, as without them I wouldn’t have had it in grand cru territory. This was so light in comparison with the NSG’s, especially the 19’ pair. It wasn’t exactly a bad thing though as I really enjoyed the energy of the wine.

Red-fruited and spicy aromas, along with hints of flowers and black tea. The palate was probably the juiciest of the lot, with a very silky feel, and lovely salinity. Drinking it side-by-side with the other burgs, this was more mineral than the Chevillon and MG, but didn’t quite have the intense minerality of the Grivot. Like the 12’ Chevillon, I felt it didn’t quite have the depth nor intensity of the 19’ pair. Wonder if vintage played a big factor in this observation. All said, I found this very elegant and better of the two 12’s.

I disliked the 11s for the longest time, but they are coming around finally!

Delectable - this is the Latricieres Chambertin, not the Echezeaux. The final 9th wine in the Gevrey Chambertin Grand Cru bracket and it proved to be somewhat controversial. The wine was mid Ruby with a tawny edge showing some development. The palate was rich and flavoursome I thought. Roscoe and Alex from PWS were not fans seeing “over ripe dead stewed fruit” in Roscoe’s case giving it 91 whereas Alex gave it 94. I gave it 96. Comforted myself as giving the same score as Burghound who was on 96. Summing up the Gevrey Chambertin bracket was brilliant - happy to buy any of them.

First of 5 Grand Crus from Flagey-Echezeaux and Vougeot. Again we knew the identities but not the serving order. Lovely perfume of cherry, florals and herbs. Barely medium bodied. When revealed as a rather light weight Faiveley I was not surprised.

life is too short not to spoil your burger (& yerself) with fine #Burgundy (bright, spicy, currant-y, silky Faiveley Echezeaux '96)

2005. This wine is gorgeous. Still very young but great sense sense of terroir. Raspberry and black cherry. Yummy.
