Really enjoyable cab franc from the Loire. Lively and fun and seemingly carefully crafted to achieve a beautiful, round finish, not like new world cab franc and definitely not spicy, or fruit forward.

When you want fun, quality wines that are affordable you need to go Rhône or Loire Valley Cab Franc. They so rarely disappoint. Deep cherry complexion with a thin rim. This is one of those beautiful wines that are easily identifiable at first sniff. Spice upfront on the cheerful nose. Mushrooms and grass with dried herbs. Cherries for days with a little blackberry and fennel.

From the same vineyard that sources Clos Rougeard’s Saumur-Champigny but without the massive price tag. Superb structure and precision to go with that naturalesque nature of Loire Francs. All soft, round, and a bit untamed. There’s not an over abundance of vegetal notes here because the fruit dominates the palate. Wild strawberries and blueberries are generous with more cherries coming to dance. Limestone and more mushrooms. Nice length on the finish. Fun in a bottle.

Surprisingly good with Szechuan food. Medium tannins and great acidity.
