When Lafon is on they’re so damn good and 2011 Genevrieres is superb, with notable density and concentration for the vintage, and perfectly developed for age 13, with a seamless balance of richness and elegance. It’s captivatingly aromatic with defined fruit, pastry cream and toasted macadamias layered in stony minerality, and the palate is so elegant and satiny with balanced acidity and a long, silky finale. Just gorgeous.

When Lafon is on they’re as good as any name in white burgundy. 2012 Genevrieres is an absolute banger, seamlessly balanced between richness and elegance and perfectly developed wafting waves of defined fruit, pastry cream, butterscotch and toasted almonds within its layered minerality. It wraps around the palate with incredible texture, concentration and density with a massively long, silky finish. Crazy good.

Decanted for an hour. Light gold color. Nice nose. Notes of tan spice, citrus fruit, gravel stone and some tangerine. Nice viscosity in the mouth, rich and full bodied. Decent finish. The acidity was just starting to power up as we finished the bottle.

WOTN incontestably was the 1990 Comtes Lafon Genevrieres. We were blinded on the vintage, I guessed ‘89. What magical place this wine was in. Stunningly complex, perfectly mature and ultra generous both on the nose and the palate with its nutty & honeyed aromas and layer upon layer of flavors. A reminder to us all how good aged white Burgundy can be when it’s on.

Straw gold color. Young and vibrant in the glass. Leesy nose. Notes of citrus, sandstone, apricot and some tan spice. Great fruit and acidity. This is in a good window for consumption but a bottle like this one has many more years in front of it.

Pale Gold in colour and crystal clear. Nuances of honey florals mineral and herbal characters. With time notes of sliced pear. Plenty happening on the palate which initially was delicate and refined but developed more weight with aeration. A fascinating journey for this gorgeous mature Genevrieres and a good showing for a lesser vintage. Drink now. One of the 1001 Wines.

1990 Lafon Meursault Genevriéres
Warm ginger and dry citrus spice, ripe and flowing but totally intriguing
