Domaine des Baumard
Savennières Chenin Blanc
So very interesting and complete. Offers fruit in the nose as quince, pear and apple. All fruit seems to disappear in the palate with swaths of acid and stoney inflections sweeping across the enveloping palate. Texturally very rich and yet with a cutting acid. The tension here is great. This is artful to me.

Oct 20th, 2022This bottle was pretty closed even on day 2-3. Firm, sharp and maybe stony. I think it needs about 5 years to begin to unwind.

Mar 11th, 2020Really like this Wine. The Baumard family growing the noble Chenin at Rochefort in the Anjou for centuries, in 1953 they acquired a vineyard in the Quarts de Chaume, & in 1968, purchased acreage in Savennieres. Straw with full fruit and light spice aromas. On the palate ripe apple, pear & melon, complex, with vivid acidity. Lingering, ending with mineral and sweet honey character. Wow. A white that should age well. Had this 9 months ago, even better now!!

Dec 29th, 2018Savennières is stealth Chenin. It is ever so much that white gravel people rake patterns in. And just as dry. Until a lemon is squeezed over and a pear and tangerine fall from the trees and a brisk wind wafts through carrying hints of the flower bushes blooming nearby. Oh damn and that raw Marcona almonds. It’s a goddamn garden party in early autumn. Bask. This Savennières looks lightweight but it’s white gold.

Dec 14th, 2018Textbook Chenin nose of pear, lemon oil, ripe red delicious apple, ginger, and hay. Big round body with an oily texture. Could have stood to have a little more acid, but very good regardless.
