Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)
Richebourg Pinot Noir

Oh boy…is this real life? A DRC from back in the days when Lalou was involved in the process. Enjoyed out of the Baccarat DRC glass which is hilarious to behold but I’ll be damned if wasn’t a pretty effective glass. The 1988 Richebourg pours a deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with heady notes of ripe and slightly desiccated red and black fruits: strawberry, spiced meat, red flowers, forest floor, and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with lovely, savory minerals. There is so much density. Honestly, this still needs a ton of air. It’s remarkable how youthful it’s showing. Drink now with loads of patience and through 2038. Bottle No. 4044.

Powerful and zesty. Deep and complex. Beautiful and rich… plum and gnarly fruit. Still quite young. Years ahead.

Classic DRC. Stems and violet and huge purity. Intense and long. This is really something, but so light and focused Wow

Tasted blind. Tawny color with clear rims. Amazing, sweet nose. Notes of sour cherry, asian spice, mocha, sois bois, dark earth and some salt. Hearty in the mouth. Great structure. Debate ensues about the age of the wine, and my guess is 90 Dujac CdlR. Tells you how good this ~50 year old juice is. Got better over the night. Peacocks and prances about. Can still smell this the next day.

Silky texture. Unfortunately just passed its prime. Not much energy going on. Very little fruit on the nose.

I contributed this bottle, which had a seepage problem earlier in its life leaving a ~5.5cm ullage. Decanted and left to aerate and hour before heading to the shindig. Amber tawny color, translucent. A Wow! Nose from the get go. Bing cherry, framboise raspberries, rhubarb, rose petals, sweet red cherries. Exotic nose leads to a luscious experience as the wine is tasted. Sois bois. The wine peacocks over several hours of enjoyment. Great juice.

Wonderful stuff. Deep plummyfruit. Sappy and profound. Beautifully elevated on the nose... bloody and intense but bright, fresh, supple fruit. Probably way too young but great now

Tawny and translucent. Fragrant nose from the start. Fruit forward with notes of raspberries, cherry, sois bois, balsamic wood, violets and some menthol. Nice in the mouth, but on the dry side. This wine is all about the nose as the fruit has faded some.

A very deep and intense nose with black pepper, blood, gnarly plum. Profound and fragrant. This is still really young. In a decade this will be open but just wow right now for potential.
