Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)
Montrachet Chardonnay

Incredible stuff. Plush and rich and expansive. Really fine and detailed but lush and long. Hints of mint and a subtle steeliness underneath. Wonderful

Oy vey. This is something. Bright and lifted at the front. Intense fruit with lemon, chalky stone and minerality but a really deep and broad middle with hints of honey, spice and real depth. Light but powerful and long and intense. This is exceptional and in a very good place

Dark gold in color. Dried apricot, biscuit, toast. Very broad and rich in the palate with loads of complexity but a deftness. Oxidative notes and sherry. I suspect this bottle isn’t as great s as it once was but it’s still a complex and fascinating wine. Memorable.

Not Montrachet. No listing for this wine. It’s Corton Charlemagne

What a treat to taste, even so young. Not on my dime, so thrilled for a splash. This will be epic in time, but very tight now. Still plenty of pure orchard fruits, a plethora of apples, pears, peaches and apricot. Complex mid palette with a core of minerals, highlighted by bright floral notes. When you consider the rarity, the undeniable elite winemaking and the price these bottles fetch, it boggles the brain. Wow.

Not as pristine as the others. Marmalade color. Soft and layered. Mellow edges. Dried roses, lovely soft balance and a finish of oxidative notes . Rather gorgeous in an understated way but significantly less than the other 70.

Incredibly complex nose of pineapple cake, caramel, firewood, vanilla bean, lemon curd, camphor, beach sand. Very long finish with cake batter, baked apple pie, toffee. Simply amazing.

One of my favorite vintages of DRC’s Montrachet and a stand out in a recent dinner spanning 20+ vintages. Peaking now, with great combination of bottle age complexity and minerality.
