The fruit aromas are gorgeous and complex. The winemaking is terrific and succeeds with careful, yet intentional framing with soft, grainy tannins to offset the grapey and soft mouthfeel. It is heroic.

Tightly wound like many ‘13s. Great depth and herbaceous character. Decades of life ahead.

2013 vintage. Domaine de la Romanee Conti Grands Echezeaux 2013 - Quick Note/Initial Thoughts: Classic ruby colour. Unlike the Echezeaux this shows very well on the nose with little restraint. Lovely fruit on the nose - really jumps out of the glass. Forest fruits, cinnamon, cloves, Christmas spice. The initial attack on the front palate is immediate - this wine wants to get on with it! Crescendo across the mid palate by the standards of a DRC at this youthful point. Rich and sappy - bordering on rustic for a DRC (this is meant in the most relative of fashions). Good sweetness and the most fruit forward of the wines from the vintage at this time. The finish is both long and rewarding. 94+/100/ Drink 2021 to 2035.
