Sep 15th, 20221971 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands Échezeaux in magnum: hoped for an "8," landed a "10". Explosive nose of rose water and licorice and molasses, joined later by baked apple. Rich and exceedingly smooth texture, almost like olive oil. The finish keeps going, like the gustatory equivalent of ocean waves, pure and vibrant and fresh. classic DRC nose and palate. You hear about Asian spices, soy, and hoisin, all here. Classic peacock’s tail fanning out on the finish. Just a stunning wine. Sous bois, red fruits. Everything one reads about DRC. One of the best wines in years.

Dec 18th, 2022Unbelievable. Bricking in the edges with a soft rose, red fruit and a blurry, haunting, delicate nose. This is genuinely spectacular. Long, pretty, complex and profound. Wine doesn't get much better than this. Genuinely beautiful
