Domaine de la Piégonne
Ventoux Red Rhone Blend
Drank 4/26/18 at a tasting event.
Nose of red and black fruits mixed with white pepper and herbs. Palate of earth, blackberry, and tar. Very dry finish with medium tannins.
3/20/7/4/4 + 50 = 88

Domaine de la Piégonne Ventoux. Cool label. Stars and a bird. Blue. Good dark plum color. Aroma is dense with a hibiscus and rosehip thing in it. Flavors are delicious mix of fruit (dark berries and black cherries) and rocks. Flowing river rock from high up in the Sierras. Classy stuff. Has a Rhone style, but with a bit more finesse and softness. I wonder what Counoise brings to the mix at 23% of the blend with Syrah and Grenache. This is a nice bottle of lovely wine for a pretty lovely price point.

Dec 23rd, 2024Juice to encourage conversation at the historic house tour homeowner social. The people are many times more interesting than the homes. The wine memorable because of the occasion.

May 7th, 2018Mineral, metal, tart cranberry and a mouth full of seaside cliff. Bright, ripe and ready to drink. Damn I love 2015 in Europe. Second tasting and still so interesting.

Jun 21st, 2017Ripe fruits on the nose with raspberries and blackberry and just a touch of currant into what I'd say is a medium body. Definite go to for 10 bucks

Apr 19th, 2017Bits of cellar dust - not much else to the nose yet. Medium fruits, not too sweet, not too acidic. A thoughtful wine, that changes with the more chance it gets to inhale. I don't think I would age this for too long, doesn't seem to have the structure for it. Gunpowder tea like tannins finish this philosopher wine.
