Light and crispy, with some honeyed quality from age. While it’s amazing that a lithe wine like this can perform after 10 years, I’m not certain I necessarily prefer it to a fresh bottle or one with a couple years of time. Enjoyed with a dozen raw Hog Island Sweetwater oysters, my first shucking experience.

Vintage 2013 / First day eating outside. A hard day’s work behind me. Two reasons to appreciate this wine properly... what I do. Funky and frivolous! Muscadet is so underrated. A complex smell with minerals, citrus and a hint of passion fruit. Just enough to make the wine so interesting. Razorsharp taste. Lovely vibrant acidity. I am a Pépière fan, that much is sure. / Paired with a schnitzel and leek purée, it gave the food a twist.

Yeasty, salty, tart lemon, ripe white peach and nectarine. Crushed stones, fennel. Sweet spices, smoke. Bitter finish. Elevated acidity, medium intensity and finish.

I’m certain you could give this wine blind to both an expert and a neophyte and both would rave about it. What’s not to like? The fruit (lemon curd, some stone fruit, green melon, lemon candy) is lively and generous, acid is vibrant, alcohol is in check, and the texture is steely with a soft cloud cover of creaminess from the lees aging. There is plenty of complexity for those seeking it, but it’s undeniably and simply delicious. Absolutely beautiful young, and from what I’m reading from other reviewers, I need to buy some more to hold on to...

The 12 has a level of precision, finesse and clarity that I don't recall on previous vintages. I have been a fan of every vintage since 05, but this might have the makings to be my favorite.
