First Chinon from this producer. Lovely mineral, cherry, bell pepper. Honest wine.

This was the last of three bottles I picked up in the Loire Valley in 2014 - and time has worked its magic on this wine. The “Pierre de tuf” cuvée results from a long maceration in an ancient stone vat carved out of the tufa rock and then is aged 14 months in oak. It’s a powerful Cabernet Franc and has aged beautifully - with mellow caramel notes layered on top of vibrant dark fruit and cassis, very round tannins and a long lingering finish of boysenberry and cassis.

Nice and herbal and green. Dark fruit on the back end as it opened up. Paired with a steak and roasted peppers. Worked quite nicely. Not too tangy with the food. Nice funk on the nose and the front end.

Great airy Franc, but not as bold as Burrowing Owl. Frankie Valley not Frank Sinatra.

Quick sip after open for a day: Dark fruits, integrated tannins, rounded black pepper notes, and some developed meaty notes and mingle with beets on the pleasantly aromatic nose. Loads of character. I want to try again...and very drinkable today!
