Domaine de la Mordorée
Cuvée La Reine des Bois Lirac Red Rhone Blend
Blanched almonds and dried prunes,
A nice, well rounded nose of old world.
Still a bit tight, and could use a few more years to smooth out.
Heavier bodied, Licorice, horehound, pomegranate, black fruit.
Mouth filling tannins, chewy!
9v acidity.
This is a great producer, loved for years. And I always have one on the shelf.

Big and chewy, with ripe, dark fruit. Needs a good piece of meat and some years to mellow, but great for a night when I really wanna feel it. Look forward to the cellared bottle in a few years.

Sep 14th, 2018Cassis soaked cedar staves, a great nose.
Blackberries, mint, tarragon, hints of sage, medium weight, lip smacking choppy bits of oak.
It has been raining for so long, and after bucket emptying full window wells, I wanted a hearty rainy day wine.
This was the year I visited the vineyard, and winery in Tavel. A glass raised for the brother passed, and a tip of the hat to the one that carried on.
Truly, you can never go wrong with any Domain de la Morderee.

Yum!
This is a beautiful, classy, mature Southern Belle...
Opens with earthy, gamey, poopy notes on the nose. After awhile some interesting nuances of black tea, old leather and mocca add in.
On the palate this is amazingly fresh and well balanced. Black cherry, soft cinnamon spice, cola, antique-shop and a creamy chocolate-walnut swirl make that this is, IMHO, a stunning performance given its humbler pedigree and respectable age.
Really very good.

A knockout! Slightly overwhelming for the grilled lamb I served it with, but what a charmer. Still ver youthful. Wish I had another case...

Dec 4th, 2015Very extracted. Big bold and heady. All liqueur fruits, liquorice and chocolate. Not for the faint hearted. Deep, full, concentrated with newer polished oak. Modern style, not sure on its longevity as the acid lacking

Jun 7th, 2015Solid Lirac. Lots of flavor and the age has softened the edges, tons of dark fruit and charcoal, but a little monolithic yet. Still has time to develop I think...
