The 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape almost reaches the same high altitude as the 2020 and potentially the 2021. This 2019 mingles bright aromas of rose petal, juicy red and black fruits, garrigue, licorice and cured meat. Velvety tannins glide across the full-bodied palate, which is wonderfully balanced by lively acidity. It concludes with excellent freshness on the persistent finish. (Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, June 2023)

Been tasting at work for the past 3 days, it’s absolutely singing now. Still so young but open, bursting at the seems with aroma and flavor. Densely packed garrigue laden fruit, purple flowers, exotic spice, stoney minerality. Palate is grippy, dense and made for the long haul.

Anyone who has rated this CDP below 9.0 has most likely made a mistake. That being that they opened it too young (I also did this rating the 2011 in 2015), but more importantly, did not give it adequate breathing time when they did so. Bravay keeps the co2 level very high during aging to prevent oxidation producing a wine that not only is going to age beautifully but NEEDS time to breathe. He also prefers tannin from skin not stems and oak so it is fermented and aged in stainless and concrete vats. After proper decanting, the 2011 leads with a full bouquet of dark berries, spice and a lovely violet note that keeps my nose in the glass. Medium to full in body with an elegant balance of ripe fruit and acid. Raspberry and juicy cherry fill my mouth with just a touch of pepper on the lingering finish. Tasted several times over 4 hours. Notes taken after 3 hours.

Some days richness wins. Dark strawberry and roasted fig, raisins and chocolate are wrapped in fleecy tannins. A touch of leather creeps in showing this wine’s age. Pretty much what you’re looking for in an 8-year-old CNdP.

Founded in 1960 by Charles Bravay (although the property actually dates to at least 1760), Domaine de Ferrand didn’t produce its first estate wine until 1995 when Philippe Bravay took the reins from his father. It’s 90% Grenache from vines nearly a century old. It sees no oak, only a combination of stainless and concrete during fermentation followed by aging in concrete vats.

Initially austere, the 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape presents a rugged exterior. With time its layers start to peel back and it’s hard not to notice how intoxicatingly sexy it is.

The entire spectrum of red fruit is on display, including kirsch, supple raspberry, and even a savory, pickled strawberry. The fruit is equally matched with a mix of Provençal herbs, lavender, and mineral purity, leading you down the path to its lengthy finish. Only then do you realize how tight the grip is. I’m not the first to point out the notions of heat, but in the $30s, you’ll get nothing and like it. What an exceptional value!

Just a baby waiting to grow up. Gonna be a good one but still waiting to come together. Started to express itself after an hour or so.

Cellared perfectly but had a strange effervescent that took quite sometime to blow off. Doesn't seem to be bacterial.
Besides that, still quite young and tight. Just like most of the 2007's I've had the past two years. Big tannins. 👍

Opened with a bit of spritz that quickly disappeared revealing opulence & structure.

It didn't show well. VA. Other bottles wouldn't have tasted like this.
