Domaine de Fauterie
Les Combaud St. Joseph Syrah
What a silly showing. Just ridiculous. One of the finest St Jo’s I have ever had. So silky and full of character.

Apr 2nd, 2024Another grand slam from Sylvain Bernard. Nose is ultra granite. Some black berry but man is this stoney. Smells like the Cornas but more Burgundian. Maybe the most expressive mineral nose I’ve ever had in a St. Joseph. 9.8 nose. This is doing it for me. It is so expansive. Intoxicating. The level of herbs are incredible. Just a knockout. Elegant and deep on the palate with terrific ripeness and intense concentration. But man is this painfully young. Awesome blancs, purity and length and so juicy with intense mineral grip. This needs to flesh out and the fruit needs to become more prominent. It will. My last French wine for a while!

Aug 11th, 2022Just incredible. Needs 5 mins for sulfur to blow off. Then massive blueberry, granite, clay and so so mineral. The most mineral St. Joseph of them all. Floral. But so much clay and mineral. So unique. Nothing like Fauterie. Complex, fresh and so mineral. Like the energy on this wine is beyond ridiculous. Stunning depth and purity. Ripe and juicy tannins and this is like 80% mineral and 20% fruit. What a wine. Finish is forever and has hints of white pepper and lingering blue fruits.

Jul 4th, 2020Ripe, sweet wild red fruits and herbs, nice sweetness, a ton of black licorice, quite tannic. A lot of forest floor. Musty, meaty. There’s a quality here I appreciate but don’t feel is next level like others here... Still, this has a nice full body, good concentration and a lot of pleasure in the drinking.

1 person found it helpfulJul 3rd, 2022This is going places. Quite elegant even if primary and youthful at nearly four years of age. Muted nose; palate is blackberry & stone, highly mineral, terrific balance & acidity - an elegant arc. Pull one if you must but take my word—this will pay dividends.

1 person found it helpfulMay 9th, 2022How many times can I say this is a genius wine? Well here’s the umpteenth time. This is a genius wine. Nose starts out reticent but has stunning granite, soil tones, black fruits but is tightly coiled aromatically. But man this palate is TEEMING with energy. Holy crickey! Palate is just so silky, seductive and sweet with the most incredible balance and elegance. Then it finished with just stunning granitic energy. Tight on the finish but man this is beautiful and will evolve slowly over the next few hours and decades. Combaud is an elite site in St. Joseph that makes wines that are very Burgundian for St. Joseph. Genius wine of the highest degree. Classy and aristocratic. Finish lengthening and just so finesse. This is just so good.

1 person found it helpfulMar 20th, 2022Either mildly corked or brutally closed aromatically. :-(. So no rating. In the cat is alive universe decant for quite a while.
Nose. Occasionally some lilacs peek out from under the sheets.
Palate : Very elegant. Not super grippy. Crushed flowers. Super sweet raspberries. Black cherries. 9.3-9.5. A kiss of awesome elegant licorice.
Finish is a 9.5. So this would likely be very good. Stream of crushed flowers. Long.

ok. This is closed now. After an hour it opens and is great. Blind a more dense and dark fruited Cote rotie. Not rustic at all.
Fauterie rocks.
Bought from fass selections.
