Great Burgundy 1er Cru

One of many treats tonight...stood up well to its peers

This 2005 has settled nicely into a certain genteel personality, toned down it’s earthiness, and certainly a great companion to the pan-seared salmon with shaved truffles that my daughter and I had for dinner. Pleasant and adequate.

Disappointing disharmony between dense dark fruit and oak, but lovers of earthy burgundy will rate this higher than I have.

Mixed red & black berries, mushrooms, haystack, white pepper, game, iron, clay, blood orange, tobacco. Rounded acidity, medium bodied, minimal smooth velvet tannins, satin texture, long earthy, rocky finish. Secondary notes dominated upon opening, evolved beautifully in glass, decant for 45 minutes for the impatient.

Benjamin button? I traveled from 1999 to 2009 within an hour? Deja vu? Sweet spices, sour cherries, smoke, raspberry, earthy.
