Deep violet and black cherry. A touch of toffee. Savory with a hint of black pepper.

1999 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle-Musigny "Les Amoureuses". From Jay. Consistent with my tasting note of last May. An absolute stunner of a wine although this bottle had greater power and weight than the one I had last year. Easily the wine of the night. No change in score or drinking profile. 95/100. Drink now to 2030.

1999 vintage Comte de Vogue Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses: from Jay. Opened one hour prior to serving. Lovely clear ruby colour. Incredibly perfumed nose of crushed red flowers and red forest fruits. Fraises des bois, raspberry, intermixed with violets and wild roses - very floral. The nose is quite beguiling. Lovely attack with a crispness that matches the ethereal nose. Some minerality across the mid palate with a lush core and acres of fruit. Very well balanced with an effortless finish which although not epic in duration is nonetheless very satisfying. I have always found the wines from Amoureuses to be quite enchanting and this bottle was no exception. Paired beautifully with Steak Diane at the Hotel du Cap Eden Rock. 95/100.

darkest of the group, still young and not fully developed. Not Cabernet-like at all, avoids Millet’s failings.
