Valtellina Superiore Nebbiolo

Super friendly, easy to gulp but given time to think about, easy to analyze, to lean into the nuances. This particular one is SO fresh; it’s like you can taste chiller air. The nose is bright red cherry and pomegranate, slightly tangy, reminiscent of tamarind even. The palate is strikingly less tannic than a Piemonte Nebbiolo. Earth-filled, circling back to tamarind, turmeric and cherry compote. Gorgeous and a thinker if you give it the time of day, which…you will. It takes a minute or so to open, but that time spent waiting will be rewarded with an eloquent wine that says just enough.

Delicate and complex but stopping short a bit. At least for 25 euros.

From Italy's northernmost wine zone, Valtellina is in the far north of Lombardy near the Swiss border. 100% Nebbiolo. Like detuned Barolo - light to medium bodied with Liquorice Earth light florals and Leather notes with lighter tannins than you would expect from a young Barolo. Short term cellaring.

NYE 19. First bottle from Lombardy. Very light in color. Lack of fruit. Tea and bitter. Very pinot like and a very distinctive nose of goji berry and strawberry. Someone just comment the taste is very interesting. I think the nose of rose petal, subtle mineral is good and a wine of purity and elegance
