I always love Bierzo when I get to try it. This is one of the mid tier bottlings and while it's delicious it doesn't outclass the basic Petalos by too much.

Bird is the word! Or is it Bierzo?
Either way this is like a hypothetical mash-up of Burgundy and Chinon if your not familiar with the great Mencia from this region. The nose was reduced at first, but after 1 hour it started to relent. On the palate however we had a completely different story. Red berry fruits, strawberry in particular, with hints of peppery forest floor, cinnamon and sandalwood on the palate. The finish is firm, but with fine tannin and fresh acids.
Give it a few more years, but this is an impressive wine from a great producer in an up and coming region.

Really love this vintage from Palacios. Lots of violet and floral, almost fruit punch-y character. More refined than Pétalos, and he seems to be pulling back on oak usage 👍

Blueberry, violet on the nose. Oak is noticeable. Full bodied and nice tannins. This is a cab drinkers Mencia. Is that a thing?

Quite floral; almost Pinot-like. Red berries, spice, hint of truffle in the opening rounded out by fresh acidity and silky tannins.
