Dinner with friends, prior notes still apply.

A Burgundy bin end theme for my bottles tonight, all are the last stock of the wines that have given us great pleasure in the prior 12-18mo. They will be missed, but not forgotten, new vintages will come eventually. 🤩

The soft texture of this wine is remarkable. Like plush velvet. Soft acids too. Nose has oozing cherry, wet limestone minerality, and some baking spice. Mouthfilling but with a contrasting lightness that is remarkable. Maybe the heat and low acids of 15 actually helped this wine. Will please both neophytes and more sophisticated palates. Don’t wait though, drink now.

The evening theme is Pinot Noir from unexpected areas.
A red Chablis, sourced from three parcels between Venoy and Chablis; one location is the Ferme de Couverte which is the hill above Vaudésir. 🦄 🍷

Nose has syrupy kirsch, very ripe cherry, very ripe black currant and moist limestone. Incredibly fruity, reminiscent of many Oregon wines, on the edge of being too much fruit. 🍒💣(Can't believe I'm writing that!)

Palate has super sweet ripe cherry, brambly-stemmy notes are well integrated, acidity is sharp but soft edges.

I'm completely caught off guard by this bottle. Yet, I should have known that the Chardonnay masters in Chablis would have just done an amazing job with Pinot Noir grown in the same conditions. Damn it, I barely bought any of this and that was my mistake, plus 2016! What was I thinking? Won't under commit to this wine in the future, perfect sipper and very accessible.

Decanted ~3hrs.

This is drinking wonderfully right now. Crushed berries and cherries on the nose. So pure. Such a fresh nose. Lovely minerality beneath the huge fruit. Some wet earth as well. Palate is crunchy, complex and wonderfully rustic with tangy sweet cherry fruit and a lovely mineral drive on the finish. In a great place right now.

So joyous. Big cherry fruit. Red/black more red. Spice, and an engaging minerality that is uniquely Chablis. Sappy and so juicy with huge fruit and the minerality that gently scrapes your tongue and back of throat. Terrific purity and freshness. Just what one wants.

What it is is not fancy. But this is the best of what it is. Bright cherry fruit. On fire acidity. Very grapy. From Chablis. A must own even though it’s Bourgogne rouge. Bought from Fass Selections.

This is a Pinot with a positive attitude. Nose has exuberant sappy cherry, but the mineral base isn’t the typical Burgundian wet earth, but instead is intense zingy limestone. More like a red Sancerre than a Bourgogne. Lively as all get-out in the mouth. Great acids. Who needs complexity? This is so fun.

Distinct nose of bright cherries and cow pie. Light, funky and mineral with enough fruit to make it gulpable. A tiny bit fizzy. Didn't show well 2nd day.

So fresh and unique! Nose has bright ripe cherry, loads of nose-tingling rock dust and lemony acidity. Broad cherryish flavors inflected with high-toned minerality fill the mouth. Almost weightless. Lot of character here!

Gorgeous earth and mineral nose with wild berry fruit. Evocative and untamed. In no way refined but charming nonetheless. Amazingly pure fruit on the palate. Fresh, vibrant, mineral/strawberry and so juicy and clean. Red Riesling as the e-mail said.
