Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berries and floral spices. On the palate flavors of raspberry and cherry with licorice, floral, pepper and cinnamon. Fine tannins, medium+ finish, lively acidity, good structure, ending with fruit, pepper and earthy spice. An ok Pinot, however very pricey with many others better at better price points.

Dec 20th, 2018Okay Pinot. I generally like cool climate Sonoma outposts. Ft. Ross fits that bill. Small grape clusters yield subtle strawberry jam notes.

On the nose, you get big smoke from the 2008 fires in the greater Napa/Sonoma. It shows on the palate as well. Then, rhubarb, pomegranate, strawberries take a back seat to the smoke and the baking spices; nutmeg, cinnamon. Light framing on their 08. Slight chalkiness and minerals on the finish.

A full bodied wine with dark fruit, spice and oak on the nose. Excellent flavors of blueberries, baking spice and chocolate on the palate. Nicely balanced with lots of backbone if you are inclined to age wines. For me, let the party begin! First night in Napa!
