This was a night cap after a long day of drinking some exceptional wines and it honestly held its own. Bold and bright, it was a great example of an Aussie Shiraz with complexity and finesse, plus big flavors. Smelling of beautiful pipe tobacco and blackberry jam, a little plum, and some violet and pepper. Medium bodied and round, but not flabby in the least. Some good spice and pepper notes contributed to a fruit forward palate, primarily blueberry, cherry, and plum.

Where do you store your wine? I was very lucky to get a couple of Vintec wine fridges last year for my birthday and I love them to bits! I keep them at 12 degrees which is perfect for storing wine.

However when I pull a red out to drink, I make sure it has some time to warm up a bit at room temperature - around the 16-18 degree mark. If it’s too cold you won’t get to experience all the beautiful aromas and flavours in the wine.

This bottle of Dandelion Vineyards 2019 Lionheart of the Barossa Shiraz I was kindly sent as a sample (thank you!!).

The wine is named after Carl Linder - a Barossa icon and champion of old vines. The vines for this Shiraz are over 100 years old and are planted in some of the oldest soils on the planet 😯

Wine specs:

Vintage: 2019
Region: Barossa Valley, South Australia
Oak: Older French oak for 18 months
Alcohol: 14.5%
Winemaker: Elena Brooks
Price: $30

My thoughts:

It’s a deep inky red plum colour in the glass. It’s deliciously aromatic with savoury leaves and herbs alongside juicy plums and blueberries 🫐. That juiciness flows through to the palate with a bit of spice mixed with refreshing cranberry and a lick of tobacco. I’m loving the balance of savouriness and fruitiness in this red wine 😋

This #wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Incredibly dark almost opaque purple in the glass.
Smells first of dark chocolate.
Fruit forward, jammy.
Good but not multilayered and nuanced like Northern Rhone syrah of the same price and vintage.
