Crowned Beast
Saperavi
Drank 12/9/22
Costco wine Advent Calendar, Day 8.
I've never experienced this grape (Saperavi) or a wine from Georgia in the past (the country, not the state).
One of the better wines from the box thus far and quite good with mediterranean fare.
On the nose cherry, leather, and the slightest bit of barnyard.
Flavors are rich, but balanced with cherry, strawberry, and cranberry, backed by medium, well integrated tannins. Finish is medium plus. This feels like some sort of Grenache/Pinot Noir hybrid, but I belive the varietal is older than either of these. Nice

Day 8 of the Costco wine advent calendar
I enjoyed this wine, hubby said it was just OK. A bit of diacetyl (butter) but it didn’t bother me. Paired with Georgian khinkali (pork and beef dumplings). Was too heavy for the food. lots of strawberry, medium bodied, tart like cranberries. Would go well with a thanksgiving turkey dinner.
