Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato

Dark berries and espresso. A little hollow but ultimately enjoyable.

Raspberries, blackberries, purple flowers and earth are followed by smokey espresso. Nice minerality. Interesting intense savory finish emerges after decanting. Medium tannins and acidity.

What an interesting varietal. Floral, tannin-y and earth all at the same time. Lots going on with this obscure grape.

2016v. Deep ruby color. Lots of juicy red fruit on the nose: raspberries and cherries, plus a little floral violet. On the palette, juicy red fruit with a minerally finish (like Flintstone vitamins). Mild tannins, youthful tannins cover the mouth and add a bit of chew to the body. Overall, a very approachable red from Piedmont that has some attributes of pricier nebbiolo wines (especially bouquet and fruit profile) at a lower price point, but with more body. 15% ABV.

On the lighter side of medium bodied, cola on the nose, very peppery, ripe cherries and prune, baking spice, thyme, good biting tannins. At Olmsted.

Excellent paired with wild board ragú. Very floral aromas, hint of cracked pepper.

Big! Phil says "rough and ready". Big and fruity. Mineral base. May mellow out with time.

Edit: Still pretty fruity! Quaffable though.
