Constant
Diamond Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
According to Constant, Diamond Mountain Vineyard may be the highest (2121’), oldest (1895) vineyard, and smallest winery in Napa Valley. 987 cases of their 2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon were released, which also includes small of amounts of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Needed almost an hour before the evolution would begin, and then it started, adding weight and potency. Cherry pipe tobacco, saddle leather, 70% cacao, pencil lead, cedar and damp earth with some secondary floral and herbal notes. Another decade ahead for this gem. ♦️

Jul 15th, 2017Part two to the 2006 World Cup of Spain versus USA. The Diamond Mountain big boy from Constant. Immediately on the nose, it was bolder than the Priorat. For 2006, the tanins were still medium level. Great feel across the tongue as you tasted the plum and dark fruits. Freddy Constant’s memory lives on with every sip! I’m going to have to give this round to USA.

Feb 5th, 2017Purple Haze in the glass - nose of blackberry cobbler, tobacco and grilled plum. Bold and rich with velvety tannins, well balanced acidity and fruit that is all there. So plush, jammy and lively on the sip. Tobacco leaf returns with a dash of cream, espresso and minerals. Nudge of sage of the back of the palate with a tremendous envelope of black fruit to close with a banging finish. Decant is a must-
