Sagrantino di Montefalco

Deep ruby; medium minus intensity aromas of black currant, black plum, blackberry, dusty earth, subtle mushroom; dry, medium acid, high tannins, high alcohol, medium plus body; high intensity flavors of black plum, dry earth, allspice

Good fruit, but throws off tannin that feels akin to brushing ones tongue.

Very interesting; insane tannins; dried fruit, cassis, cocoa powder

A fantastic rendition of one of my favorite grapes. A youthful 2001. Endless.

2005. Drinking well right now. Classic dark fruit sagrantino flavors, with lots of smokiness.

Fruit forward, deep purple fruit with high acidity but no real tannins. Pleasant but unmemorable.

2008

I have enjoyed the 2008 edition. A 15% strong, dark brownish edition. Not as bouncy and jolly as younger ruby red Mantefalcos I have had before. Might be a bit too old?
But very pleasant non the less. Did well with lamb.

Great example of Sagrantino with nice complexity developing over the length of dinner, dark and powerful without excessive tannins or any other harshness.
