Dark Ruby/purple color. Aromas of red and black fruits with spice. On the palate displays cherry and blackberry fruit, somewhat tannic, smokey, combined with heating alcohol. Finish is medium. Drink up, past it’s prime.

Solid value, easy drinking Pessac with crunchy red fruit and a minty edge. A more detailed, elegant style

Also tasted a ‘16 & ‘17 together. Dark Ruby/purple color. Aromas of clean red:black fruits and spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry fruit, firm tannins, smokey character. Medium finish with fruit, spice and slight alcohol burn. A bit better than ‘16. Drinks well now!

There’s a great ease about this but plenty of vibrancy and length as well. Could drink again and again.

Drank 2\16\21

A great example of a decent wine in an excellent vintage.

Scent of plum, tobacco, mint, and leather. Flavors of blackberry, black cherry, earth, and a bit of pepper, with medium tannins that have softened and are well integrated at this point. Finish lasts around 50 seconds. Very enjoyable, but drink now before the fruit fades.

Dark river bank and shallows reveal fresh black coffee aromas seared beef, black currant with a hint of candy cane. Tarragon too. Color is tending toward brick, though still purple-black almost to the rim. Black plum and strawberry meet black olive and black cherry. Big fruit tannins up front, are smooth and refined, but almost an afterthought in the face of this well-built wine. Subtle mint, washed away by river that is almost like clean aquarium, though full of rich mineral and flintstone which persists on the long follow through, settling as tiny but grainy tannins in all quadrants. Yabba dabba do!

Clos Floridène – 2021
Graves, Bordeaux – France 🇫🇷

Overview
Founded by the late Denis Dubourdieu, Clos Floridène has built a reputation for producing approachable yet refined wines from Graves. This 2021 vintage is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, delivering structure with easy drinkability. (Educational note: Graves, one of Bordeaux’s oldest appellations, is famed for its gravel soils that add freshness and balance to its reds and whites.)

Aromas & Flavors
Juicy red fruits (cherry, raspberry, plum) with blackberry and cassis, framed by cedar, oak spice, and a subtle earthy note.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with polished tannins and balanced acidity. Solid yet affable structure, making it an effortless “uncork and pour” wine.

Food Pairings
Great with roasted chicken, duck breast, grilled lamb chops, or charcuterie. Also pairs with earthy mushroom dishes or semi-aged cheeses.

Verdict
A charming Graves red — approachable, structured, and thoroughly enjoyable. The 2021 Clos Floridène captures Left Bank elegance in a wine ready to drink today. 🍷

Did You Know?
Clos Floridène was founded in 1982 and guided by Denis Dubourdieu, one of Bordeaux’s most respected enologists, often called the “pope of white wine.”
