Clos de Mez
Fleurie La Dot Gamay
Nose has some funk initially which will likely blow off. Flowers and cherries. Earthy and mineral. Palate is terrific. Thick and juicy. Very pure and clean. Unevolved but so much material. Very fresh and energetic with tons of late season cherry fruit. Once nose funk blows off this is a winner. Lovely floral note lingers. I’ll be back.

Jul 16th, 2020This wine and me have a history. It’s one of the best 08’s but 08 was a hard vintage and it’s always had this aggressive tannin. But the fruit and structure were brilliant. How has it fared? Nose of mid season cherry, earthy, wet forest floor, so Burgundian. No carbonic here. Palate is bright and juicy and it seems that the tannins and fruit balance each other out pretty well. But still the hard tannin of 08 is there but the fruit is glorious. Long and persistent. Best showing yet. Amazing fruit. Really wonderful texture and length. So juicy.

Jun 14th, 2019Appealing aromas of elderberry, raspberry, violet and smoke. Juicy palate with red berries - great intensity and good acid balance. This is a lovely Fleurie than can easily last another three to five years. Delicious with a long finish

Sep 14th, 2018Needs 45 minutes but then classic Clos du Mez style in effect. Big and brawny and full of intense cherry fruit. Black current as well. Great acids and big tannin. Tremendous. Texture gets silkier as it breathes. Drink slowly as it has lots to reveal.

Def a highly extractive style I'm not accustomed to in Beaujalais but this wine showed perfume and gorgeous dark red fruit alongside a structured tannins that beg for fat. This mf'er will go another 10-15 yrs.

Apr 7th, 2017Each time I have this it gets better. Nose is getting heavy secondary. Grilled meats, florals, mineral, wet clay, so aromatic. Palate is deep and ripe yet with tangy acids and the fruit is all cherry red. Needs 15 minutes to get it together. Lovely.

Dec 19th, 2016Made and built like a Burgundy from its élevage, this is more serious Gamay than your usual Cru Beaujolais. A little reticent for me on this occasion in the nose nut the palate is all there, though this tells me it could age easily another 4-5.
