Deep ruby with some sediment; medium plus intensity aromas of dried black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, red plum, charred wood, vanilla, cloves, earth; dry, medium acid, medium plus tannins, medium alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; medium plus length, good concentration, very good

These are pop ‘n pour notes. Will update tomorrow. For now, the color is dense and youthful. Nose reluctantly gives up deep ripe cassis and berry notes, moist clay, cedar, and pretty red florals. Dense in the mouth, and still pretty tannic, but there is very nice depth of fruit behind the stern texture and dry profile. Still several years to go before peak. For now, 9.2. Could be significantly higher later.

DAY 2: It’s opened and softened some, but the tannins, while settling, are still there. This suggests to me that at least 3 or more years are needed before the peak plateau is reached.

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

On the nose blueberries, red cherries, red currants, plums, earth, oak, vanilla, dark chocolates, herbs, light vegetables, garrigue, pencil lead and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, dark coffee, earth, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, light river rocks and peppercorn.

Medium finish with grippy tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very nice Merlot from Pomerol. Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel. Feels big and grippy, and has a lot in it to last much longer.

A good quality wine from a bad vintage, that will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and much better after a few hours of airtime.

Thank you James @wineroomvideos for sharing this with me.

I had the 2016 a couple of years ago, and it is showing nice consistency.

Wine Enthusiasts 88 points.

A blend of 93% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

13% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$80.

Rich, dark fruit. Dry, dusty tannin. A pleasant tobacco finish. Great mid level Pomerol!

this to me tastes like what California cab is trying to be, but never achieves. a beauty. I feel like sometimes we compare this level of Bordeaux to wines of utter distinction and, therein, corresponding ridiculous pricing. when taken on its own merits, however, without label in mind, this wine could stand proudly with all but a few of the most beautiful blends that we common folk can ever hope experience.

Rich red fruits with some sediment. Gooseberry and fire-roasted tomato on the finish. Tannic and a bit dusty.
