Les Boucauds Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc

Gorgeous nose of peaches, honey, lime, gooseberry, dried grass, wet stones. Raging acidity, intense citrus with a layer of creamy tropical fruit and bitter quinine finish. Excellent

Nice wine marred by way too much SO2. Full and rich with snappy acidity.

This was very nice, suave and easy going.

On this Wednesday, "Hump Day", I have opened the 2019 Domaine Claude Riffault Sancerre Les Boucauds.

On the nose I am getting lime, white peach, pear, melon, gooseberry, nectarine and minerals.

On the palate is good notes of lime, white peach, grapefruit, pear, minerality and some flinty stone.

This is a beautiful Sancerre medium bodied wine with medium + acidity that moves nicely into a long fresh citrus mineral finish. Claude Riffault's Sancerre Les Boucauds 2013 is sourced from old vines grown in clay and limestone rich soil. Half of the wine is vinified in stainless steel, the other half in oak, and the results are rather spectacular. Les Boucauds is one of the more intense Sancerre's I've tasted, the nose fairly explodes with star fruit, guava, mango, and ripe nectarine. Lean and racy on the palate, with sleek tension, staggering acidity and length accompanied by a full range of complex fruit notes and chalk.

As always this wine kicks ass. This bottle showed more striking herbal character. Lemon balm, verbena, spring flowers, jalapeño, grapefruit zest. Great mineral notes. Has lost a little freshness than the last bottle. Still has great precision and weight behind it 50/50 stainless/barrel.

Walks the line of sharp acid and richness very well. Very polished and refined. Lots of tension and nervous energy on the palate.

2014 vintage Out of control .......

Very pure. Intense citrus and minerality.
