Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona
Riserva Santa Caterina d'Oro Vigna di Pianrosso Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Cherry and light camphor on the nose, it opens like a mature burgundy, Chambolle Musigny to be precise. I absolutely love this kind of flower/mature black fruit. On the palate, a bit tired, there is something missing in the mid-palate but I'm being bitchy about it.... A brilliant wine from a vintage that is really not up to the hype IMHO.

Jul 1st, 2021Absolutely fantastic. Took about 30 to 90 minutes to fully open up, but not over the hill at all, despite what I read on cellar tracker.

Jan 19th, 2020WINE #300. MY LAST REVIEW ON DELECTABLE!
1997! A standout vintage for Brunello. Ciacci being one of my all time favorites. Quite opaque in the glass with a brown-brick rim. I'm at the 2 hour mark and it's still opening.
Lots of spice on the nose. White pepper, muddled aged cherries, fresh tobacco, and something in the Christmas tree family.
It's surprising how alive this wine tastes! Definitely cherry on the palate, acidity is now quite low, but tannins are still very firm. This baby isn't going anywhere!!! I have a couple of other '97s and now have no fear holding them a bit longer.
95+ points
