Wow. Nose is so pungent. Spice and sour cherry. Earthy and so deep but also some gorgeous florals. Spectacular. Elegant and juicy but also young and unformed. Needs air. But it’s all there. Huge acid and length. Very sapid. As this airs the tart cherry fruit stands out as does the concentration but all in all after 4 hours a very closed wine that needs maybe 8-10 years. Today it is softer and suppler and has major mid season sapid cherry fruit. Wonderful

Mar 20th, 2024This is a masterful bottle of wine. Micro-production. Really special. Nose has the most vivid cherry you can imagine. Haunting and ethereal. Huge spice and so focused. Chestnut aromas. So much oolong and green tea. Just so old school and enormously complex. A super star nose. Sweet roses. Licorice. Just full Carema and Chiussuma symphony. Palate is so nimble, deep and fresh with staggeringly pure fruit that slips and slides across the palate. Huge, sweet, delicate, substantial and just gorgeously ripe tannins. They are so well executed. Long, sapid finish that echoes. Insane length. Wow best bottle of this I have ever had. A 9.7.

Palate is nimble, elegant and full with a bounty of juicy tannins. Really juicy and wonderfully elegant as all Carema should be. Great length. Better in 5 years but fantastic now. I’ll he back as this opens.

Mar 31st, 2022Sold out at the estate. They sent to me to be able to get a sense of the style. This is a big wine and doesn’t quite have the level of refinement and delicacy of the 17 and 18. Nose is a bit roasted. Ripe and mineral. But roasted. Roses. Tar. Pleasant and balanced. Palate is big and dense with sweet tannins and lovely density. It’s refined but not at the level of the 17. It’s a very good wine but 17 they took the leap to elite.

Dec 26th, 2020A new Carema. Stunning nose. Strawberry, rhubarb, cherry, caraway seed, anise, so complex and so unusual. Some cherry flower. Cherry smells more pie like and velvety after 15 minutes. Wow, so floral now. Really really pretty nose. Smoke, seaweed, just unusual, very appealing and so complex. Really wowed here. Insane complex spices. A 9.5 nose. Yes, really. Wow, what insane inner mouth florals and just unreal fruit. Decadent yet delicate and so so refined. Incredible purity and freshness. Just so energetic and deep. But remains so delicate. Wow. One sip and you know this is elite. Amazing fruit. So red. So fully defined and just perfectly ripe. If ArPePe made alto Piemonte wines it would taste like this. A star is born in my apartment. Mark my words. A genius wine. Wha a finish. It’s an intense pitter patter. One of the greatest unknown young wines from anywhere I’ve ever tasted. The tannins are big but so ripe and juicy and just carry all stunning fruit. So compelling.

The 2018 Carema is fabulous. Deep and exquisitely layered, the 2018 shows off its depth and sheer pedigree right out of the gate. There is so much going on. Sweet dark cherry, plum, leather, menthol, spice, dried herbs and leather are some of the many nuances that flesh out in the glass. More than anything, though, it is the wine's balance that is just exquisite. This is a fabulous example of Carema. Impressive. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2022)

N: Leather cherries, roses, cinnamon and oriental* spices, a bit tarry.tobacco.Ever evolving.
P: light and somewhat chewy/tannic on the palate. Mouth filling, very woodsy, cherries in the background, long finish, definitely some roses, Carema is wonderful in it’s lightness yet fullness.
An oxymoronic wine for sure. It often rides that brown/red edge. Perfect!

Palate is a bit tight on open. Cherry. Cherry liquor. Some cherry cough syrup. As it opens that elegant deliciousness. Wow. So silky and clean. Really a spectacularly well made wine.
