Château Thivin
Cuvée Zaccharie Côte de Brouilly Gamay
Côte de Brouilly, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days; good on Day 1 and even better on Day 2. The 2022 Cuvée Zaccharie pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart fruit: raspberry, black cherry, black licorice and stony minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Any Thivin is already up there with the best in Beaujolais; this Cuvée Zaccharie is phenomenal and gives me Foillard 3.14, Breton P’tit Max, and Metras L’Ultime vibes. Wow. Great now and will only get better, particularly after 2030 and through 2045+.

Dynamite showing. Nose is deep, layered and complex with red cherries and forest floor. Wow. Wet earth as well. Really glorious and showing so well and developed. Palate is so elegant and full of class. Rich, red cherries and a creamy mid palate lead to a super velvet finish and fruit floods the zone only to finish elegant and mineral with sweet, sappy and wispy tannins. Just a gorgeous showing. So juicy yet decadent. Really leans into the vintage.

Smells very very ripe. Sur maturite big time. Dark black cherry fruit, dark blueberry. Some earth and funk. Very ripe. More soon. 9.3 to 9.2 this leaned into 15 too much and was muddied and roasted.

This is very well made and has freshness, energy and dynamism but the fruit is roasted and pruny. Very good winemaking here but hard to avoid this type of fruit profile in 15 Beaujolais. And as it ages it gets more exaggerated.

Deep, sumptuous and complex. A bit wild, feral and purple fruited with some meaty savory funk, a very Syrah-like complex of savory notes. But also extremely cool fruited, delicious. Needs 2-3 years.

Nose of smoke, leather, black cherry, granite, and more granite. Almost Cornas like. Palate is so clean, so young and so refined. Wow this is ultra clean, squeaky clean and super refined. Stunning purity and elite, sleek tannins. So suave and elegant. This is young but so well made. Will only get better with air. Unreal. Will be back. 9.5 to 9.6 with air. Wow. So refined and amazing granite/ripe fruit balance.

So intense. Some game and herb and muscle makes this reminiscent of light cornas, but with an explosion of generous, uniquely Beaujolais fruit. Licorice and quinquina tonic.

This wine is revelatory. I have not had a Beaujolais that has aged so well or taken on such a unique character. The intense, ripe, tangy Gamay fruit is there, but is both mellowed a bit and conversely is very intense. Also, of course, loads of crushed granite. In the mouth, it has more of a Bordeaux or Burgundy mouthfeel, not hard crunchy Beaujolais. Great acidity and length. Wonderful purity.

Takes and hour but stunning nose, ash, tar, floral, damson, juicy and dense, so pure, elegantly textures. So fresh. Mint, amazing density. Hugely fresh and sweet.
